Executive Summary
- Belgrade-Budapest High-Speed Railway is a major infrastructure project to construct a double-track railway on Corridor X which will connect capital cities of Serbia and Hungary, but also Central with Southern Europe and Middle East;
- Development of the Belgrade-Budapest High-Speed Railway was agreed in 2015 during the “16+1” summit, which is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI);
- While the works in Serbia are undergoing, Hungary has not yet made any real progress on its section of the project;
- Construction of the project in Serbia is being carried out on the different sections by different construction companies and is financed from different sources.
